Survey Says 1 in 8 Women are Thinking About Divorce. Are you?

Are these many women really contemplating divorce? These numbers come from down south, but they still caught the eye of our divorce lawyers in Barrie, Collingwood, Orillia, Midland, Muskoka and Newmarket. Whether one of our Newmarket divorce lawyers or our office closest to you, we are always open for a consultation.

A recent survey of married Americans conducted found that 1 in 8 women are currently considering separating from or divorcing their spouse. By contrast the ratio for surveyed men is just 1 in 25.

“It’s not a step that should be taken lightly. But couples who have determined that the end of the marriage is inevitable should make every effort to make it an amicable parting, especially if there are children involved,” said Wevorce founder and CEO Michelle Crosby.

It’s not only what’s best in terms of your ability to successfully co-parent down the road, but it’s less emotionally and financially draining.”

Their numbers also show that

• One in 12 respondents are currently considering separating from or divorcing their spouse; 81 percent of those were women
• Two-thirds said they would wait until after the holidays to broach the subject with their spouse. Many did not want to disrupt the holidays and did not want to add any stress during the holidays
• Whereas, almost one-third of respondents said they would address the subject of divorce before the holidays; citing a desire to “get it over with”
• Just two percent of respondents said they would speak with their spouse about the issue during the holidays.

If you have any questions about divorce or separation, please don’t hesitate to contact one of our divorce lawyers in Barrie, Collingwood, Orillia, Midland, Muskoka, or Newmarket.
