My wife kicked me out of our jointly owned home and I am now renting an apartment while we settle our divorce. I thought I read somewhere that the cost of my rent should be a shared expense. Is that true?

Hi, It is a factor that should be considered. It depends on all of the circumstances such as whether she is paying the mortgage or not, your respective incomes, whether there are children, debts and who is paying them etc. But, certainly it is part of the mix that needs to considered when working out an agreement. There is no law saying "yes, this is a shared expense"... it is part of the negotiations.
